The WAITING was unbearable. Wish I’d bought locally! Could have had ‘7’ running by now! BUT I went for the DEAL, bought cheap, and had to wait for the MAIL OUT ‘7’ disk.
Got it yesterday, figured easy upgrade in place, no worries, how bad can it be? Well let me tell you… it’s not good!!!!
Got TWO disks from Gateway, presumably the Gateway specific drivers on one disk, and the ‘7’ disk for the install. The instructions say 2 to 3 hours to complete. So I figured what the heck, let’s just DO IT! [[[ WRONG ]]]
Issue number 1, starting from the Gateway disk, yes it prompts you to do a backup of your user directories, very nice feature, THEN you get to the SELECT YOUR MODEL screen. For some reason, my only option was for NOTEBOOK models, since the DESKTOP scroll box was greyed out!
OK, so bypass the GATEWAY disk, should be OK right? NOT! ‘7’ does not like iTunes being AUTHORIZED, so that was easy, de-authorize! DOES NOT like Nero, so uninstall, easy?? No! Now I have a partial uninstall to get rid of that is still visible to Windows. ‘7’ also does not like the ATI drivers, it’s install manager and Control Center. Now this is scary! Had issues on a DELL at work, everyone telling me to get the LATEST drivers, well it don’t work that way! These boxes are so CUSTOMISED that the FACTORY driver is all that works, unless you want BLUE SCREENS!
‘7’ didn’t even like the WILD TANGENT games that came with the GATEWAY!
SO, now I’m in the e-mail waiting list to see what response I get, and hopefully a FIX. OR maybe I just man up and wipe the disk, and clean install!
What do you think? Let me know below! Any help appreciated!
